# How to Update Your Half Decent Scale

## What You Need

- A **Google Chrome** or **Microsoft Edge** browser (other browsers won't work)
- A USB cable connected between your scale and your computer
- **Mac users:** you may need to install the [CH34x USB driver](https://github.com/WCHSoftGroup/ch34xser_macos) first — without it, your computer won't recognize the scale. Some Windows and Linux machines may also need this driver.

## Step 1: Pick a Version

Open the updater page and choose the version you want from the **Version** dropdown. If a second dropdown called **PCB Variant** appears, check the label on your scale's circuit board and pick the matching option.

## Step 2: Download

Click the **Download** button. A file will be saved to your computer — remember where it goes (usually your Downloads folder).

## Step 3: Load the File

Click **Choose File** and select the file you just downloaded. A green message will confirm the file was loaded successfully.

## Step 4: Connect Your Scale

Click **Connect Device**. Your browser will show a popup asking you to pick a device — select your scale from the list and click **Connect**.

You'll know it worked when the device info box appears.

## Step 5: Update

Click **Flash Firmware** and wait. You'll see a progress bar — **don't unplug the scale or close the page** while it's running.

When the message **"Flashing completed successfully!"** appears in green, you're done. Your scale will restart on its own with the new software.

## Something Not Working?

| What's happening | What to do |
|------------------|------------|
| No device shows up in the popup | Try a different USB cable — some cables only charge and can't transfer data |
| The connection fails | Unplug the USB cable, plug it back in, and try again |
| The button says "Connect" but nothing happens | Make sure no other programs are connected to the scale (close any you're unsure about) |
